Kingfisher Bay Resort is the gateway to the World Heritage wilderness of Fraser Island. Fraser Island Ferry operates regular services from River Heads to Wanggoolba Creek and from River Heads to Kingfisher Bay Resort - both on the island's western side.  Barge services also run on demand from Inskip Point (in the south).

Fraser Island Snapshot.

From Brisbane: The journey is approximately 3.5 hours' drive north of Brisbane. 

From Bundaberg: The journey is approximately 1.5 hours drive south. Follow the Bruce Highway south. Turn off at Torbanlea and follow signs to Hervey Bay (21kms).  Turn left onto the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road. Travel 0.7kms and turn right on to Booral Road. Travel for approximately 12 kms, then turn right into River Heads Road and travel 9.6kms to arrive at Kingfisher Bay's Mainland Reception located at River Heads Shopping Village (on your right hand side). River Heads Road is locally named Ariadne Street.

Secure parking is available at Kingfisher Bay Resort's Mainland Reception. Bookings are highly recommended and can be made directly with the resort's Reservations Team on + 61 7 4120 3333 or 1800 072 555 (within Australia).

Regular road coach services are available to Maryborough and Hervey Bay from Brisbane or from the north of the state with Greyhound-Pioneer-McCafferty's, Premier and Suncoast Pacific Coaches.

A scheduled coach service runs daily shuttle trips to / from Brisbane. Pickups available from Roma Street Transit Centre (Level 3, Bay 34) at 1230 hours, Brisbane Domestic Airport (Opposite Qantas Arrivals) at 1250 hours, Brisbane International Airport (Ground Transport Zone) at 1300 hours and returning from Hervey Bay to Brisbane at 9.30am from the Marina Kiosk at Urangan Boat Harbour. Queensland Rail runs regular train services from the north and south to Maryborough West station. A rail/coach connection can be booked to Urangan.

Qantaslink flies from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Darwin via Brisbane on limited scheduled services. Direct flights are available from Brisbane to Hervey BayReturn transfers are available between the Hervey Bay Airport and Kingfisher Bay Resort’s Mainland Reception for $29pp.

Kingfisher Bay Resort operates an Air transfer service from Hervey Bay / Fraser Coast airport for resort guests.

Air Fraser Island also operates charter services from Fraser Coast / Hervey Bay Airport or from Sunshine Coast Airport (in the south) to Fraser Island. Air Fraser Island is the only commercial operator with permits to land on 75-Mile Beach. Alternatively Air Fraser can make arrangements to land at Wanggoolba airstrip (will require a 4WD transfer).

Our Sea Explorer custom-built boat offers return transfers directly between Urangan Boat Harbour and Kingfisher Bay Resort in just 25 minutes. Transfers operate on demand and are subject to availability. Other local marine operators offer private charters between Urangan Boat Harbour and Kingfisher Bay Resort. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes (depending on tides).

The Fraser Island Taxi is a 4WD service operating on Fraser Island.  Appointment by telephone - +61 6 4127 9188.

4WD’s can be hired from the Aussie Trax officelocated within the Village Store Complex at Kingfisher Bay Resort.
